Welcome to Music Class with Mr. Swigert!
We are off to great start in music class, and looking forward to a great year! We are learning the elements of music through singing, playing instruments, and movement! We have several performances planned throughout the year! Check the performance dates below, and mark them on your calendar.
*Based on current aerosol studies, all students will be 3 ft. apart and will wear a mask when singing in music class.

K-3rd Grade Music
- Kindergarten is now working on Unit 3 and using nursery rhymes, games, and folk songs to reinforce the concepts of steady beat, rhythm, and pitch!
- 1st Grade is now working on Unit 3 and learning about steady beat vs. rhythm, unpitched instruments, and reading rhythmic notation with quarter notes and eighth notes!
- 2nd Grade is now working on Unit 3 where we will learn music from 4 of the 7 continents! We will learn about half notes and half rests, the new pitch do and how it relates to mi and so, and fanfares!
- 3rd Grade is now working on Unit 3 and learn about music from other countries, musical phrases, verses, and refrains, and the pitches low so and low la!

4th-6th Grade Music
- 4th Grade is now working on Unit 3 and learning about music from other countries, 6/8 meter, the new pitch fa added to do, re, mi, so, and la, and how melodies move!
- 5th Grade is now working on Unit 3 and learning about how music changes, 6/8 meter, major scale, tempo, and dynamics! We are also beginning to talk about band instruments for next year!
- 6th Grade is now working on Unit 3 and learning about dance, choreography, handjive, stick games, square dance, line dance, and circle dance, as well as the Renaissance!
- Choir is open to all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, and will begin January 19. Choir meets every Wednesday after school until 4:30. See Mr. Swigert for a permission slip if you are interested in joining.

SWE Choir
- SWE Choir is open to all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, and has begun! We meet every Wednesday after school until 4:30. Our 1st performance is singing the National Anthem for the HS Boys Varsity Basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 22!
